1.1. IELTS Speaking Part 2 là gì?

IELTS Speaking Part 2 là phần thi độc thoại về một chủ đề được giao. Cụ thể, giám khảo sẽ đưa bạn một mẫu giấy đề bài (Cue Card) có chứa 1 câu chủ đề và 4 câu hỏi phụ. Part 2 Speaking sẽ kéo dài trong 3 – 4 phút. Trong đó, bạn sẽ có 1 phút để chuẩn bị ý tưởng câu trả lời và 2 – 3 phút để trình bày bài nói của mình.

1.2. Tiêu chí chấm điểm IELTS Speaking Part 2

IELTS Speaking Part 2 được chấm dựa trên 4 tiêu chí sau:

1. Fluency and Coherence: độ trôi chảy và mạch lạc
2. Lexical Resources: Vốn từ vựng phong phú
3. Grammatical range and accuracy: Khả năng sử dụng ngữ pháp chính xác và đa dạng
4. Pronunciation: Khả năng phát âm chuẩn

Sau đây IELTS CITY sẽ hướng dẫn cách trả lời IELTS Speaking Part 2 qua các bước đơn giản sau đây:

Bước 1: Lập dàn ý

Bạn có thể tận dụng các câu hỏi gợi ý trong tấm Cue Card làm sườn cho bài nói của mình. Điều này sẽ giúp bạn tránh việc nói lạc đề và bám sát vào chủ đề cần nói.

Như đã nhắc đến trước đó, giám khảo sẽ đưa bạn Cue Card kèm theo 1 tờ giấy và một cây bút để bạn ghi chú (take note) trong 1 phút trước khi thực hiện bài nói. Vậy làm sao để tận dụng tối đa 1 phút này?

Dưới đây là một số gợi ý giúp bạn take note hiệu quả trong 1 phút:

• Ghi chú từ khóa và ý chính: tìm các từ khóa quan trọng và các ý chính mà bạn cần nêu trong câu trả lời. Hãy tập trung vào các từ quan trọng như “describe,” “explain,” “why,” “where,” và những chủ đề cụ thể như “favorite book,” “memorable trip,” và “important event.”
• Viết tắt: để tiết kiệm thời gian, bạn nên viết tắt các từ thông dụng hoặc quan trọng trong câu hỏi. Ví dụ, “fav” thay cho “favorite,” “mem trip” thay cho “memorable trip.” Điều này giúp bạn nhanh chóng nhìn và nhớ các chi tiết cần thiết khi nói.
• Tập trung vào ý chính: trong quá trình ghi chép, hãy tập trung vào việc ghi nhớ ý chính của câu hỏi thay vì việc ghi lại toàn bộ nội dung cue card. Điều quan trọng là bạn hiểu rõ câu hỏi và có thể phát triển ý tưởng dựa trên các từ khóa và ý chính bạn đã ghi chú.

4. Chiến lược trả lời IELTS Speaking Part 2

4.1. Lựa chọn ý tưởng trình bày một cách “thông minh”

Các chủ đề trong phần thi IELTS Speaking Part 2 thường xoay quanh những topic gần gũi với cuộc sống thường ngày. Do đó, đừng cố gắng nghĩ đến những ý tưởng cao siêu, mà hãy nói về những điều liên quan mật thiết nhất đến bạn và có thể truyền cảm hứng cho bạn nói nhiều hơn.

Trong trường hợp gặp phải chủ đề “lạ” và chưa từng có trải nghiệm trước đây, bạn có thể tưởng tượng ra viễn cảnh tương ứng để đưa ra câu trả lời cho mình. Nên nhớ giám khảo không chấm điểm dựa trên việc trải nghiệm đó có thật hay không, mà chấm điểm dựa vào 4 tiêu chí cụ thể đã được trình bày ở mục trên. 

4.2. Sử dụng các cụm từ nối để liên kết các ý trong bài

Trong lúc trình bày, hãy sử dụng từ nối (Linking words) và cụm từ chỉ dẫn (Signpost) để dẫn dắt ý tưởng của mình sao cho các ý liên kết chặt chẽ với nhau.

4.4. “Ghi điểm” từ những điều nhỏ nhặt nhất

Đừng vội vàng trình bày phần thi IELTS Speaking Part 2. Thay vào đó, hãy hít thở thật sâu, thả lỏng và thư giãn hết mức trước khi bắt đầu phần thi của mình. Tuyệt đối không đọc lại chủ đề trong Cue card mà hãy paraphrase bằng cách sử dụng mẫu câu như “I would like to tell you about + Topic”. 

Bạn không cần thiết phải có tương tác bằng mắt (Eye contact) với giám khảo. Tuy nhiên, nếu có thể kết hợp eye contact với việc nhìn vào cue card và giấy note thì bài trình bày của bạn sẽ được tự nhiên và thoải mái hơn.

4.5. Đa dạng thì (tense) ngay từ đoạn mở bài

Thông thường khi mở đầu bài Speaking Part 2, bạn sẽ có xu hướng sử dụng những cấu trúc câu quen thuộc như “My topic is about…” hay “I’d like to tell you about…” 

Thế nhưng, bạn hoàn toàn có thể ghi điểm cao hơn ở tiêu chí GRA nếu sử dụng cấu trúc “I’ve decided to tell you about…” vì thì hiện tại hoàn thành trong trường hợp này sẽ cho thấy bạn có sự “tinh tế” trong việc sử dụng thì.

4.6. Ghi điểm kể cả khi “bí ý tưởng”

Trong lúc độc thoại sẽ rất khó tránh khỏi những lúc bạn bị bí ý tưởng. Lúc này, thay vì “ừm, ờ”, bạn có thể sử dụng cụm từ “What else can I say” để “câu giờ” mà không làm ảnh hưởng đến sự trôi chảy trong câu trả lời của bạn cũng như thể hiện bạn sử dụng ngôn ngữ rất tự nhiên. 

4.7. Sử dụng cấu trúc câu điều kiện (Conditionals)

Bạn sẽ ghi điểm rất mạnh ở tiêu chí GRA nếu trong câu trả lời có chứa câu điều kiện, đặc biệt là câu điều kiện loại 3. Ví dụ, chủ đề yêu cầu miêu tả một người bạn từng chơi thân trong quá khứ chẳng hạn. Bạn có thể kết thúc bài nói của mình bằng việc giả định, “Nếu có cơ hội, tôi nhất định sẽ liên lạc với người bạn đó một lần nữa”.

Cấu trúc câu điều kiện bạn có thể sử dụng trong phần thi này có thể kể đến như:

• If I have a chance I’ll… (Câu điều kiện loại 1)
• If I had a chance I’d… (Câu điều kiện loại 2)
• If I had had the chance I would’ve… (Câu điều kiện loại 3)

5. Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 2 tham khảo

Đề bài:

Part 2: Describe a thing in your hometown which has improved life.
You should say: – What is that change? – How does this change help your hometown improve life? And do you like this change?

Bài mẫu:

In my opinion, the thing that has greatly improved the quality of life in my local area is the introduction of a new bridge. It is called Binh Loi bridge which connects Binh Thanh district, where I live, and Thu Duc district. Although the two districts are adjacent to each other, they are separated by a big river, thus making traveling quite difficult in the past. However, since the construction of the new infrastructure, going to Thu Duc has been much easier.

Now, it only takes me 10 minutes to go straight down the highway through the bridge in order to reach my destination, while in the past, I had to use alternative roads which took more time. Not only did the Binh Loi bridge improve the accessibility for residents in both areas, Binh Thanh and Thu Duc, it also allowed businesses to thrive as more people could shop and dine at a different place using the bridge.

In addition, the new construction also brought about positive resolution to the traffic jam problem as it gave commuters a wider road to pass Ho Chi Minh’s river. Therefore, I would say that life in Ho Chi Minh city, specifically in Binh Thanh district, my neighborhood, had improved significantly thanks to the new bridge.

Part 2: Describe a childhood friend

Bài mẫu:

I guess most of us always have a memorable childhood friend and I am no exception. When I was young I had a best friend called Phuc. We have known each other since kindergarten. He was an upbeat child which was totally in contrast to me, a quiet kid. We casually hung out with each other after class.

Although our town was a small and humble place, we always found something enjoyable to do together each time we met. I remember one time we played hide and seek and I forgot to go find my friend, which left my friend waiting in frustration. After that incident, we still made up and found the best of each other. This was the best characteristic that I liked about my friend as he never took my mistakes personally. Through ups and downs, we went our separate ways.

I am currently an office worker while he is a real estate agent. Despite all of the differences in occupations and working hours, we still managed to keep in touch, and I am looking forward to catching up with him some day. It could be said that our friendship withstood the test of time and nothing can replace such a precious relationship like Phuc and I.

As a city person, I have been through quite some busy places but the most memorable one was Shibuya crossing in Japan.

After graduating from university in Japan, I decided to embark on a cross-country journey,  and Tokyo was the first city that I visited on the trip. Before the trip, I had already had a preconception in mind that Japanese cities are crowded. However, I was still overwhelmed by the rushing energy at Shibuya crossing.

Not only was the intersection busy and crowded, it was also vibrant with billboard signs and trendy fashion presented in local shops. Each corner of this tourist attraction had a different and unique sound coming out.

Whether it was a commercial running from a screen, or recent pop music at a clothing shop, I still enjoyed all of the chaos Shibuya brought to me because I always felt energized by the modern vibes everytime I walked by that noisy place.

Well, “Notion” is the first app that popped into my mind when it comes to this topic, and I gotta say it’s such a useful app that has helped me a lot in my work and study.

About the time I first knew about this amazing website, I guess it was probably 2 years ago, when I was caught up in so many deadlines from work that I didn’t know how to arrange tons of things on my to-do list. I’d been absolutely clueless about this website until my coworker talked about it in a team meeting. He said that this website was like a lifesaver to him as it helped him organize things in a smart and eye-catching way, which in turn increased his productivity significantly. I was hesitant to use it at first because I was too lazy to figure out how this website worked.

Oh, I forgot to tell you about this website. Well, Notion is an all-in-one workspace where users can write, plan, and get organized. It also allows you to take notes, add tasks, manage projects, and more. What I love about this site is that it provides the building blocks, and you can create your own layouts and toolkit to get work done. Besides, Notion works across all platforms, including iOS and Android, and the data is synchronized when you switch between devices, which is another thing that I find convenient. Notion is highly customizable and incredibly flexible, I mean, being able to link relevant pages and databases has been extremely useful. Since I registered my account on this site, I have somehow had more motivation to work and finish the deadlines on time. Not just at work, this app has helped me learn vocabulary in foreign languages such as Spanish and Chinese more effectively thanks to its large database and colorful learning templates. Now, I couldn’t imagine my life without this awesome website.
