The line graph illustrates the changes in the population distribution of three different age groups (0-14, 15-64, and 65+) in a particular country from 1960, with projections up to 2040. The data is represented as a percentage of the total population for each group.
Overall, while the percentage of people in the 0-14 and 15-64 age groups has been decreasing, the proportion of the elderly population (65+) has seen a steady rise and is expected to continue increasing. By 2040, the elderly population is forecasted to surpass the youngest age group.
In 1960, the 15-64 age group represented the majority of the population, accounting for around 60%. This proportion remained relatively stable for several decades but began to decline after 2000 and is projected to fall to approximately 50% by 2040. Similarly, the percentage of the 0-14 age group stood at roughly 30% in 1960 but has been steadily decreasing over the years. It is expected to drop to around 10% by 2040.
In contrast, the proportion of the population aged 65 and older was the smallest in 1960, at just under 10%. However, this age group has experienced a significant increase since then and is forecasted to rise sharply in the future. By 2040, it is expected to reach 25%, overtaking the 0-14 age group. This trend reflects the aging population of the country.
