1. Đề thi IELTS Writing Task 1

Đề thi: The Table below shows population figures for four countries for 2003 and projected figures for 2025 and 2050.

2. Dàn bài

Introduction: Nêu nội dung biểu đồ bằng cách paraphrase đề bài.

Overview:

• Dân số 3 nước (Argentina, Indonesia và Hàn Quốc) dự báo tăng.
• Dân số Ý dự báo giảm.

→ According to the forecast, the population of Argentina, Indonesia and South Korea will increase, but that of Italy will decrease.

• Năm 2003, Indonesia là nước đông dân nhất và sẽ giữ vị trí đó cho đến 2050.

→ In 2003, Indonesia stood at the highest rank and is projected to be in that position until 2050. 

Detail:

• Mô tả số liệu cụ thể của từng quốc gia năm 2003. Trình tự: lớn nhất >< nhỏ nhất, sau đó đến 2 nước còn lại.
• Mô tả sự thay đổi dân số được dự báo, dẫn chứng số liệu cụ thể (tăng/giảm thêm bao nhiêu hoặc tăng/giảm đến bao nhiêu). Trình tự: quốc gia tăng nhanh nhất → quốc gia tăng chậm nhất → quốc gia giảm.

3. Bài mẫu band 7.5+

The table indicates the population of four countries in 2003 as well as the predicted information for 2025 and 2050.

Overall, the population figures of three countries are forecast to rise: Argentina, Indonesia and South Korea, but not Italy. Besides, the number of people in Indonesia in 2003 was the highest out of the four, and this country is projected to continue to be the most populous until 2050.

In 2003, Indonesia had the biggest population, reaching 238 million. In contrast, Argentina, which had a population of only 34 million, shows the lowest figure. In the same year, the population of Italy was relatively larger than that of the Republic of Korea, at 54 million and 48 million, respectively.

The projections made for 2025 and 2050 highlight that the population of Indonesia will increase dramatically, with an extra 75 million people in 2050. It is foreseen that Argentina’s population will increase roughly 1.5 times by 2050, whereas that of South Korea is predicted to grow slowly over the course of 22 years from 2003 before levelling out at 52 million. However, Italy’s population in 2050 is expected to be just five-sixths of the initial figure.

• Project /prəˈdʒekt/ [v] : to estimate what the size, cost or amount of something will be in the future based on what is happening now (dự báo).
  • Projection [n]
  • Những từ đồng nghĩa hoặc gần nghĩa với project [v]: forecast [v], estimate [v], expect [v], predict [v], foresee [v], etc.

• Populous [adj]: where a large number of people live (đông dân).

• Relatively /ˈrelətɪvli/ [adv]: to a fairly large degree, especially in comparison to something else (tương đối).
• Highlight [v]: to emphasise something, especially so that people give it more attention (nhấn mạnh).
• Level out [phrasal verb]: to stay at a steady level of development or progress after a period of sharp rises or falls (giữ ở mức ổn định).

Phân số trong tiếng Anh: 

Trừ 1/2 (phần hai) và 1/4 (phần tư) ra, thì các phân số còn lại đều đọc bằng cách sau đây:

• Tử số đọc trước, đọc bằng số đếm (one, two, three…)
• Mẫu số đọc sau, đọc bằng số thứ tự (third, fifth, sixth…)
• Nếu tử số là 2 trở lên thì mẫu số thêm ‘s’ (VD: two-thirds, five-sixths…).
