Overall, Hydropower was the most significant contributor to renewable energy production, accounting for 13.7% of the total, while Solar energy, despite generating only 3.6% of energy, employed the largest number of workers. In contrast, Wind power produced a notable 10.2% of energy but had one of the smallest workforces.
In terms of energy production, Hydropower was the leading renewable resource, contributing 13.7% of the total renewable energy in the UK in 2009. Wind power followed, accounting for 10.2% of energy production. Geothermal and Tidal power were almost equal, generating 6.9% and 6.8% of energy, respectively. Solar energy, despite its popularity in other contexts, produced only 3.6% of the total renewable energy.
Regarding employment, Solar energy had the highest number of employees, with 12,450 people working in this sector.
